My Family Night Out at The Red Carpet Premiere of The Lion King

Imagine our excitement when our family was invited to attend the Red Carpet Premiere of The Lion King in Hollywood! My husband and I decided to keep it a secret from the kids (they’re not big fans of surprises, but this one was definitely worth the wait!).

The original Lion King movie was released back in 1994. As a kid, this was one of my most favorite Disney movies EVER! I was excited at the prospect of re-introducing the girls to this classic story and having the experience of walking the red carpet with the films’ stars including Beyoncé Knowles-Carter, Donald Glover, Seth Rogen, and Billy Eichner.

So, I had to break the news to the girls a day in advance because.... shopping. (There’s no way these two little ladies would let me pick out a dress for such a special occasion without considering some of their input). The looks on their faces when my husband and I broke the news to them? Priceless.

A very hectic 24 hours later, there we were! Our kids squealed with excited when they got to see some of their favorite tv and movie stars like Yara Shahidi, Marsai Martin, Nia Sioux of Dance Moms and of course, Queen Bey.

After the film comes the after party! The girls thoroughly enjoyed participating in all of the activations. They made the most beautiful African-inspired bracelets, Lion King GIFs and of course every child’s favorite: SLIME! I was initially a little nervous that the girls may not have much to keep them occupied, but this event included activities that any child would love.

As parents, we initially questioned whether our girls would be able to appreciate a special moment like this. They absolutely did. We all did. There is nothing like the energy of a theater full of people that have anticipated the release of a film for so long. As a family, our most favorite activity is going to the movies, opening weekend. But to attend the LA Premiere of this classic Disney film? Priceless.

In a nutshell, we had an incredible time. Disney Studios did such an amazing job with this movie. The themes that this story tackles (guilt, fear, self-doubt) are timeless and I am honored that I was able to share this experience with my husband and the kids.
